A put is an options contract that gives the owner the right, but not the obligation, to sell a certain amount of the underlying asset, at a set price within a specific time. An option is a financial instrument that is based on the value of underlying securities such as stocks. An options contract offers the buyer the opportunity to buy or sell the underlying asset depending on the type of contract they hold. A basis point is a standard measure for interest rates and other percentages in finance, with one basis point equalling 1/100th of 1% or 0.01%. VIX or the Cboe Volatility Index, is an index created by Cboe Global Markets, which shows the market’s expectation of 30-day volatility. When the VIX is low, volatility is low. When the VIX is high, volatility is high, which is usually accompanied by market fear.
